Burdian Eustace of Zuni Pueblo crafted this Zuni Sun Face pin - pendant with small sections of carefully cut jet, white mother of pearl, turquoise and red shell. The Zuni sunface is a representation of the sun—giver of life and warmth. The sun is responsible for all life and the sunface design is found in jewelry and pottery.
This Sun Face has black jet and white shell representing the rays, or feathers radiating from the center sun. Each single gemstone has been meticulously cut and shaped, then set into carefully constructed silver channels. The back has both a secure clasp for a pin and a round soldered hook to make the piece into a pendant. It is signed by the artist—Burdian Eustace. The pin was originally purchased by the current owner at Hubbell Trading Post in the early 2000s.
