This is one of the most beautiful and graceful shapes of any wedding vessel ever made. The vessel walls are relatively thin—evidence of an excellent and experienced potter.
The jar was constructed of native Tewa clay and coil formed in the traditional manner. The body flares outward in an extreme bulge, then reverses and gracefully curves inward and upward ending in two beautiful necks, each of which flares to a pouring spout.
The entire vessel was slipped and stone polished and left without decoration. The sheer plainness of the vessel is responsible for its beauty.
Condition: The overall condition of the wedding vessel is very good. There is a small area at one of the spouts and on the side of the vessel that shows some wear (see larger detail images).
Provenance: estate of Transcendental artist Florence Pierce of Albuquerque who passed away in 2007 (age 89).
