Once Known Native American Carver
- Category: Traditional
- Origin: Hopi Pueblo, Hopituh Shi-nu-mu
- Medium: Cottonwood Root
- Size: 3-3/4" x 2"
- Item # C2941.22 SOLD
This is one of the flat-style Katsina dolls made for presentation to a young female child during a Katsina dance. There were three feathers sticking up from the top of the head, but unfortunately had to be removed in accordance with Federal regulations. A small area of black paint on the back of the head has peeled off with removal of the feathers; otherwise the carving is in excellent condition.
Provenance: From the estate of Transcendental artist Florence Pierce of Albuquerque who passed away in 2007 at the age of 89.
