Early paintings, such as this one, by Beatien Yazz are colorful and rendered in the finest detail. Take a look at the horse. He is startled and almost airborne. His nostrils and mouth show his fear as he sprints forward under the whip of the Navajo riding him. The clothing of the man is beautifully rendered. The sparse landscape of the Navajo reservation is well illustrated. Overall, this is a very well executed painting at a time that the artist was in the height of his career.
It is quite possible that Yazz painted this one at the same time as the female on horseback that we posted as Item #C2960K. The two paintings make a beautiful pair.
Condition: The painting is in original excellent condition. It has been shrink-wrapped since it was first painted in the late 1960s or early 1970s. It is not yet framed.
Provenance: This painting is among a collection from the Balcomb family, formerly owners of an art gallery which they closed in 1976.
