Ben Turner was a native New Mexican, having been born in Gallup. He attended the University of New Mexico and the Chicago Art Institute, and continued his art studies under the instruction of Blumenschein, Couse, Berninghaus, Higgins and Sharp. He was a direct descendent of Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851), the famous English marine painter.
Turner’s specialty was the depiction of cottonwoods, aspens, adobe buildings and mountain scenes. He frequently painted still -life paintings of flowers. His works reflect realism and show his artistic skill when painting still life works.
He exhibited a spontaneous reaction to his subject, with no preliminary drawing. His use of heavy brush strokes and profuse paint is quite evident in this painting.
The painting is signed in the lower right. It is not dated. It is in original condition and is framed in a beautiful gold frame.
