An analysis of a large number of paintings by Kai-Sa reveals than his most often painted subjects were related to Zuni Pueblo and most of them were of Katsinas or Katsina dance scenes. He was equally adept at painting animals, especially horses.
The execution of this painting illustrates how soft a hand Kai-Sa could use when working in his favorite watercolor medium. It has almost the appearance of pastel paints. The treatment of the mane and tail is delicate and the animal has a special regal look.
The painting is signed in lower right but not dated. It has recently been re-framed using acid-free materials and a beautiful silver tinted wood frame.
