Polychrome Wedding Vessel [R]

Lucy Lewis was particularly adept at making wedding vessels. She made a large, bulbous body to the vessel, then added two short spouts connected with a strap handle. Her spouts always were graceful and not overwhelming. The large body provided ample space for a significant design.

In this instance, Lewis filled the front and back with a double bird traditional Acoma design. The sides, underneath the spouts, have stepped cloud elements capped by thunderheads. The design is so well suited to the shape of the vessel.

The wedding vessel is signed Lucy M. Lewis Acoma N.M.
