Pottery Jar [SOLD]

An early vessel with globular swelling base and tall neck with impressed diagonal line embellishments. Undecorated save at rim and the subtly applied red iron oxide to the body of the vessel. Pit fired with fine fire clouding, excellent condition. Signed Dillingham Mar 7(?) - 9. Oxidized iron footring for display. This work was most probably created on a field expedition to Arizona circa 1973-4, where Dillingham dug and processed native clays and pit-fired them as an experiment in early pottery formation techniques.
