Special Offer: Since our exhibit of paintings by Carl Von Hassler has ended, the owner wishes for us to reduce the price of this one from $12,500 to $9800, a reduction of just over 21%. This is one of the finest of the paintings in the exhibit and well worth the asking price. He would rather for us to sell it than return it to him.
The village of Tesuque is just 5 miles north of Santa Fe. Von Hassler often painted on site in areas such as this in Northern New Mexico. He particularly liked these small Northern villages between Santa Fe and Taos as they mostly had remained unchanged since the late 1800s. Isolated as they were from the mainstream towns of Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos, they tended to retain their rural atmosphere and charm.
Selecting a site for a painting must have been a pleasure for Von Hassler. He seemed to like having an adobe house, dirt paths, cottonwood trees and a mountain or hill in his paintings. Finding a site that had all these features was not difficult in the area around the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as that is about all there is in those foothills. Low adobe buildings snuggled among cottonwood trees are abundant in Northern New Mexico.
The earth color of the adobe building with its door and window trim sits among beautiful red and yellow fall colors of the trees. This is backed up by a purple mountain and blue sky with billowing clouds. There is no scene more typical of Northern New Mexico village life.
This painting was titled by Von Hassler so its location is unquestionably Tesuque as the title indicates. It is signed on lower right Von Hassler and dated on verso 1939. It is in excellent condition.
