Navajo silversmiths are numerous and active today. They are creating an astonishing amount of silver jewelry, both traditional and innovative. The Navajo are quick to adapt, especially those who come into towns such as Gallup and are exposed to the needs of the merchants who are selling to tourists.

New tools have enabled the Navajo to find expression in silver of exquisite finish and perfect workmanship. Even in relatively inexpensive tourist pieces, they create great pieces of distinction and sophistication.

This pair of skis is a good example of modern Navajo silversmith workmanship. The skis are beautifully formed and stamped with arrowheads. A single oval turquoise stone is set at the cross junction. This pin probably dates to the 1940s-1950s.
