This small pin is of the style of butterflies inserted on concha belts between the conchas. This one, however, has been made as a pin. It has one beautiful blue domed turquoise cab at the center, surrounded by repoussé rays pointing to six smaller turquoise cabs at the edges of the pin. Based on the turquoise and patina of the silver, it is estimated that the pin dates to the second quarter of the 20th century. It is absolutely a beautiful pin in excellent condition.
Provenance: From the estate of Transcendental artist Florence Pierce of Albuquerque who passed away in 2007 at the age of 89. She was best known for luminescent paintings made of pigmented resins on reflective surfaces. Her interest in abstraction began in the 1930s when she was an associate of the Transcendental Painting Group. The New York Times called her “the doyenne of abstract art in the Southwest” following her art exhibit in New York City in 2006.
