This all-silver squash blossom necklace contains 52 handmade silver beads, 20 blossoms, and a silver naja. The naja is one of the finest ever made. The silver beads start out as large beads, and then they round off and become smaller in the area that fits behind the neck. This is for comfort of the wearer. The necklace probably dates to early 20th century. It is very rare to find a necklace of this vintage today. Most pieces of this age are residing in museums. The necklace weight 8.9 ounces, significant for silver content but not too heavy for comfort.

Provenance: From the estate of Transcendental artist Florence Pierce of Albuquerque who passed away in 2007 at the age of 89. She was best known for luminescent paintings made of pigmented resins on reflective surfaces. Her interest in abstraction began in the 1930s when she was an associate of the Transcendental Painting Group. The New York Times called her “the doyenne of abstract art in the Southwest” following her art exhibit in New York City in 2006.
