Beatien Yazz, Navajo Nation Painter

Beatien Yazz, born in 1928, spent his childhood on the Navajo Reservation, familiarizing himself with nature and the wildlife that freely roamed its vast lands. In their natural habitat, animals provided beautiful tableaus from which Yazz could draw on to create his beautiful works depicting everyday life on the reservation.

The butterfly is a recurring motif in Yazz’s paintings. In this magical piece, two mischievous bears play harmlessly with the butterflies flying above them.

Condition: The painting is in original excellent condition except for minor creasing in the upper and lower right hand corners (See second image detail). It has never been framed and is currently shrink-wrapped for protection. It is signed in lower right.

Provenance: From the collection of the family of Balcomb’s Ranch Gallery, Colorado.
