Eunice Navasie (Fawn) was a sister-in-law of Joy Navasie (Frogwoman) and Pauline Setalla, her two brothers having married those two women. She was the mother of White Swan and Little Fawn, both of whom are outstanding potters.
This jar is slipped in white clay, as is traditional with the Navasie family of potters. Over the polished white slip, a series of four panels of decoration each feature Sikyatki-style stylized birds. There is stippling in each panel which appears to represent bird feathers. The curved beak of each bird is painted brown and the body of the bird is painted in orange slip.
The jar is in very good condition. It is signed with the potter’s fawn hallmark.
Provenance: ex. collection of Phoenix collector.
