Begay is a living legend among Indian artists. His traditional flat, graphic art depicts life, animals and religion of the Navajo people. He has frequently been copied but never equaled. He attended the Santa Fe Indian School in 1934 where he completed his high school education. It was there that he met and studied under the well-known Dorothy Dunn, whose influence is still evident.

In this excellent painting, Begay depicts a young Navajo girl picking corn from the plants. Above her are traditional clouds in the form of Yei protectors overlooking and protecting her as she goes about her chores.

This is one of Begay's paintings from the 1960s. It includes a ground plane which is typical of his paintings from that time. The painting is of the highest quality, as always, from those early days.

The painting is double matted and framed in a brown wood frame. It is in very good, original condition. There is a companion painting, apparently of the same young girl gathering corn pollen from the plants. It is our item number #C2986E. It and this one make a nice pair.
