Zuni Sterling Silver and Turquoise Petit Point Barrette [SOLD]

This Zuni Pueblo barrette consists of petit point (pronounced "petty")^* flowers set on a rectangular silver base. The barrette then has an attached delicately-stamped pin that is used to hold the hair. Barrettes were not often made and we have never seen one of this style; with a pin used as the clip to keep the hair back. It is well crafted and all of the stones are perfectly placed.

It is important to note that some barrettes of this vintage do not hold the hair securely. This barrette was tested by our resident long haired person who declared “it made a good snug hold on the hair”.

^*The Zuni Jewelry work is of a more delicate petit point, needle point design or an intricate channel inlay created of sterling silver strips and a myriad of tightly fitted minerals including turquoise, coral and other gemstones.
