Navajo artist R. C. Gorman is famous for his presentation of Navajo women in full figure form. He painted original oil and pastel paintings and completed many stone lithographs during his career. Gorman also authorized other artists to use his painted images on works of their own. One artist made very large ceramic jars with images of Gorman's women and another made ceramic trays such as this one. The potter on this plate is Schimer. I have been unable to locate a first name of the artist.
This tray features one of Gorman's 1975 images of a female in his typical style. The tray appears to be a wheel thrown ceramic.
