Robert Kaniatobe was born in Tom, Oklahoma and died in Oklahoma City. He served in the U. S. Army before receiving a Bachelor's Degree from San Francisco State University and going on to becoming a very successful artist. He is best known for his ivory and antler carvings and fetish figures or small sculptures such as this nacimiento. Robert's fetish necklaces are in collections all over the world.
This set consists of a kneeling Mary, a standing Joseph, three wise men bearing gifts, three shepherds, and the Christ Child in a manger, all made of carved antler. All of the pieces show incredible detail and are displayed in a carved wooden box. The set is signed Robert Kaniatobe Choctaw on the back of the box.
Condition: very good condition.
Provenance: from a Santa Fe collector.
