Seferina Ortiz was a creative potter and enjoyed a long career of making figurative pottery such as storyteller figurines, human figurines, and animal figurines, but this is the first example of a jug with a human face that I recall seeing from her. It is signed, but not dated so I don't know what time period she might have made it.
It is a charming jug and the human face is very expressive. It could be among the rarer items she made.
Condition: The jug is in excellent condition.
Provenance: from the collection of Katherine H. Rust
