Hahai-i Wuhti is considered the Katsina Grandmother, who, like Crow Mother, is the mother of all Kachinas. Her children are the monsters Nataskas. This Hopi Hahai-i Wuhti Katsina doll was carved from a single piece of cottonwood root, with the addition of the ears. It is circa 1940s or earlier. Hahai-i Wuhti is portrayed as a sprightly grandmother.   It is her representation in doll form that is given to the very young Hopi babies and captive eagles.

Pre-1950s katsina dolls are getting scarcer and the prices are climbing.  We feel fortunate when we are able to acquire one.

Condition:  This wonderful Hahai-i-Wuhti is in very good condition with only some abrasion of the paint and evidence of a break and repair on one foot.

Provenance:  ex. coll. Santa Fe Katsina doll collector
