Pueblo storage jars have been made in various sizes from very large to what one might consider relatively small. At approximately 14 by 15 inches, this one might be considered medium size. It has a stone-polished red band on the interior of the neck and a wide red band wiped on and polished under the decorated section. Polished red bands help date the jar to before 1900, probably 1880s.
The jar is bulbous and globular and decorated on the upper half of the vessel. The large tear-drop white design elements were achieved by applying black as the painted area, leaving the white as the apparent design. Black framing lines above and below the design panel feature ceremonial line breaks.
Condition: The jar is structurally in excellent condition. There are two small rim chips located near each other but they are not significant and do not detract from the beauty of the jar.
Provenance: ex. coll. Colorado pottery collector
