Hopi All-wood Honan (Badger) Katsina DollThe Badger Katsina is a healing Katsina. Prayers for the growth of healing herbs are given to him, and he then provides the herbal medicine. As all Katsinas do, he serves as a messenger for rain. He dances in the summer day dances.

The Badger wears a case mask with a snout. He has feathers for ears and wears a Douglas fir ruff around the base of the mask. He wears a painted-on concha belt and a traditional Hopi embroidered sash hanging down his right side. A foxtail hangs down his backside. The feathers that serve as his ears and the two on his head are carved from wood. Everything associated with the doll is wood. The artist's name is carved into the wooden base.

Condition: The condition of this carving is excellent.

Provenance: ex. coll. New York collector who purchased it around 1990.
