Wallace Youvella, son of Hopi potter Susie Youvella, and Iris Nampeyo, daughter of Hopi potter, Fannie Nampeyo, are married and have jointly produce pottery. Each has made pottery singly but there was a time when they produced pottery together.
This magnificent seed jar was stone polished without the addition of slip. It is only the natural clay. An exquisite bas relief figure of a katsina maiden face with the traditional hair whorl of an unmarried maiden sits on the shoulder of the jar and her manta flows down onto the under body of the jar. Only the bas relief figure remains in a matte state.
The jar is co-signed by the two artisans. It is perhaps 20 years old.
Condition: The seed jar is in original excellent condition.
