Betty Barrackman often signed her pottery with her clan name Norge. She lived in Needles and was a self-taught potter who was productive in the 1960s and 1970s decades. She made a variety of vessel and human and animal shapes.
This single headed effigy vessel has a human head with facial tattoos. It has been surmised that the holes in the body are liquid dispensing spouts and only appear on female figures. These are not considered utilitarian or ceremonial but were most likely made for sale to tourists and collectors.
Condition: this effigy vessel is in remarkable condition.
Provenance: from the collection of Katherine H. Rust
