Louis Cordova Santa Clara Pueblo Artist

As of now, I have been unable to find any information on Louis Cordova other than he was or is from Santa Clara Pueblo.  Most of the paintings in the collection from which this came were collected in the 1960s, so we assume that this one is from that time.

Louis Cordova signature

The watercolor is of a line of dancers of an unknown plaza dance as seen from the rear.  The execution is very professional as only an experienced painter would do.  Interestingly, the men's kilts are outlined in black paint but the women's skirts are not.  The men's left legs are raised in dance position and all the women's feet are on the ground.

Condition:  The painting is in excellent condition

Provenance: from the collection of Katherine H. Rust
