This painting is a companion to another painting by Beatien Yazz entitled "Squaw Dance Procession #1" which is listed on our website as well.  The first one shows a large crowd gathering for the occasion and this one illustrates the arrival of a group of young Navajo who appear ready and anxious to celebrate.

As we stated in Procession #1, the Diné enjoy get-togethers probably because they are so isolated on the reservation.  Individual family hogans could be as much as 60 miles apart.  Ceremonial Sings, Yeibichai Dances, and Squaw Dances are good reasons for the clans to gather in large numbers.

There seems to be a certain amount of jubilation of the Diné young men as they race toward the site of the gathering.  One can speculate at their anticipation of the gathering.  They appear ready for a party, dressed in their finest.

Condition: It appears to be in original excellent condition, but has not been examined out of the frame

Provenance:  From the collection of the family of the former Balcomb's Gallery.
