Celestina Naranjo (1912-1999)

Celestina Naranjo (c.1912-c.1996) is the daughter of Pasqualita Tafoya and the wife of Salvador Naranjo. Celestina is known for her redware and polychromes as well as blackware.  Celestina's birth date is in question—somewhere between 1912 and 1925, according to Schaaf's biographical book. At any rate, her talent is never in question.

This is a very well made and beautifully carved black jar. It probably dates to the 1980s.

Condition: it is in very good condition, with some very minor scratches that are not significant.

Provenance: ex. coll. gentleman from Belen, New Mexico

ex. coll. gentleman from Las Vegas, Nevada
