This lithograph was hand pulled at Tamarind Institute, Albuquerque, in 1979 in an edition of 125 of which this is #100.  It was printed in 7 colors on Arches buff paper.  The lithograph features two Hopi maidens with the maiden whorl hair style and beautiful rich red blankets and they wear exquisite jewelry.  Dan Namingha is a nationally-known artist who has been painting in this abstract style since 1972, the year he returned from service in the U. S. Marine Corps.

Dan Namingha (1950 – present) signatureNamingha, son of Dextra Nampeyo, credits Otellie Loloma, former wife of jeweler Charles Loloma, with encouraging him to expand his style to incorporate a more abstract manner.  Loloma was a teacher at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe.  Teachers at IAIA were largely responsible for encouraging students to expand their style to a more independent one from that practiced at the Santa Fe Indian School for decades.

Namingha, in addition to painting, is a musician, lecturer, sculptor and lithographer.  He has been published in too many publications to list here and his art is in prominent collections throughout the world.  His public exhibits and awards and honors are also too many to post here.

Condition: appears to be in excellent condition but has not been examined out of the frame.  It is framed in such a manner that the full sheet is displayed and none of the art is covered with mat board.

Provenance: from an art collector in Santa Fe
