Many potters who maintained tradition in production of pottery occasionally found time or the inclination to make a tourist item that was guaranteed a fast sell.  Miniature pueblo houses were items that were of interest to travelers to the pueblos who were seeking a souvenir to remind them of their visit.  This two-story house of micaceous clay was probably made at Taos Pueblo in the mid-20th century.  The structure is made of micaceous clay and wood sticks used to simulate firewood, vigas, ladder, etc.

Condition:  overall condition is very good.  A few minor chips in the clay and a few missing wood sticks are evident but not distracting.  Because of the delicate nature of the wood pieces, we do not feel comfortable shipping this item.  The purchaser will have to arrange to pick it up in person.

Provenance: from the collection of Katherine H. Rust
