Once Known Native American Potter

This very tall black jar from Santa Clara Pueblo was probably made in the early part of the 20th century but for what purpose in mind remains a mystery.  It reminds one of an umbrella stand but there is no indication that it was used as one.  There also is no evidence it was ever used as a flower vase as there is no water damage.

Perhaps it was just made as a work of art to be appreciated as an object standing on its own.  That is the way we see it today and perhaps that was the intent of the potter.  It is in very good condition.
