I have been unable to locate any biographical information on Mary Yazzie because there are so many Mary Yazzie’s listed on-line and they all seem to be jewelers or rug weavers.  I have not found one who appears to be a painting artist.

Mary Yazzie signatureBecause of her name and subject matter of the painting, it is obvious she is a Navajo and a talented one too.  The representations of the male and female Yei were expertly rendered in ink and watercolor. Rather than use only the blue color normally associated with Yei, she chose to use a variety of colors, a choice that worked well.

Condition: appears to be in original condition

Provenance: from the Marvin and Betty Rubin Collection.  Purchased by them from the artist in 1989
