Pueblo potters responded well to the curio trade market after World War II when American tourists hit the road again and travelled throughout the Southwest. The Grand Canyon of Arizona and the pueblo villages of New Mexico were favored.
Candlesticks, sugar and creamer sets, pitchers, picture frames and a variety of other items that would qualify as tourist collectibles were made in abundance. This pitcher, in the shape of a duck, is typical of what a tourist would find and take home as a souvenir. There is no potter's name affixed to it so the creator will remain unknown.
Condition: there is a small chip under the upper lip of the duck but it is not readily noticeable
Provenance: from the collection of Katherine H. Rust
