Zuni Katsina Bola Tie with Bull Roarer - tips

Eddie Beyuka is best known for his bolas and standing figures of Katsinas and dancers executed in channel inlay with a variety of materials—generally turquoise, mother of pearl, jet, coral, and others-skillfully integrated in his famous creations.

Beyuka was featured in the "Jewels of the Southwest" exhibit at the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Santa Fe, in 2002.  His work is in the collection of the Peabody Museum, Harvard University, and in the collections of a number of private individuals.

This bola features a Zuni Katsina executed in a variety of materials.   A bull roarer dangles from his right hand.  An animal skin is draped over his back that appears to be filled with items.  Interestingly, he is wearing one brown and one black moccasin.   Silver drums hang from the tips.   It is stamped EAB ZUNI on the back.  Written on the back is #5 AZ HWY, a possible indication that this one is published in an issue of Arizona Highways.

Condition: The bola is in original excellent condition.

Provenance:  from a Santa Fe gentleman
