Ed Singer, a Navajo (Diné), was born on June 17, 1951 in Tuba City, AZ. As a youngster, Ed devoted much time to drawing and always communicated with his brothers visually as well as orally.
Art continued to be a dominant part of his life and schooling. He studied art at Southern Utah State College and Northern Arizona University. Following college, he devoted his energies to establishing himself as a full-time artist.
He is known for his paintings of traditional Indians - most often a single figure. He places them in contemporary settings as if to suggest the struggle of today's Navajos to live a traditional life mixed with Euro American influences.
