So much of the Hopi pottery we see was made for sale to tourists and collectors. It is exciting to acquire a bowl that was made for use at the pueblo and exhibits that it was used. This wonderful warm yellow bowl decorated entirely in dark brown mineral paint is an excellent example of an in-house serving bowl. The polished interior is undecorated as one would expect of a bowl that was going to be used for food. The patina of the interior clearly demonstrates that the bowl was used for serving food. Yet, it is in excellent condition.
The exterior of the bowl is beautifully decorated with a series of elements that may be the crown of an exotic bird. Additionally, a wide band encircles the bowl under the design panel and a narrow brown band decorates the rim. Other than that, the bowl is beautifully simple in design.
