Mary Small is a very talented potter and she has created her own unique look to traditional pottery. She uses a unique gray slip incorporated in her polychrome creations. Her pottery is easily recognizable on sight as no other potter has used the same coloration.
This seed jar is practically round and about the size of a softball. The bottom is flat. The whole upper two-thirds area is covered in a variety of design elements. Viewing the jar from the position of the hole gives one the impression that it is an owl or other bird design. The white designs spreading upwards from the hole look like feathers.
The jar is signed: Mary Small 1989
Condition: original condition
Provenance: from the Jeffrey Trent collection, Nevada
