Butterflies are fascinating. Everyone loves them. Ruby Panana (1954-present) Rufina Medina decorated this jar with butterflies which sets it aside from the standard Zia jars with Roadrunners as the main object of decorating. It's refreshing to see such innovation.
Ruby Panana is a daughter of Seferina Bell of Zia Pueblo. It is encouraging to see that she has continued in the tradition of her mother who was her mentor and who taught her daughter the techniques of traditional pottery construction. Panana learned well from her mother and has been an award winner at New Mexico State Fairs, Santa Fe Indian Markets, Heard Museum Guild Markets, Colorado Springs Fine Arts, and Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts and Crafts Shows. That is quite a testimony to her talent in itself.
Condition: The jar is in original excellent condition.
Provenance: ex. coll. Frances Sonnenberg, Santa Fe resident.
