Collection of Miniature Southwest Papago Indian Baskets [SOLD]

The Tohono O´odham - Papago, or Desert People are a Piman-speaking group who live in southwestern Arizona and northern Mexico. The basketry work of this group has long been renowned for its sensitive and beautiful works created of the simplest of materials in the harsh environs of the southwest. Descendants of the ancient Hohokam peoples, this people have extensive roots in the southwest, reaching long into the prehistoric past.

This collection of miniature baskets was assembled in the 1960s by a client from the Midwest.  The collection is being shown here  as a group, but the baskets are available for purchase individually.  The collection represents weavers from Tohono O'odham and Akimel O'odham tribe-nations of the US State of Arizona.
