Florence Pierce Estate Pottery & Katsinas
December 18, 2009 until January 03, 2010
Adobe Gallery will feature an exhibit and sale of native arts from the estate of Florence Pierce at the gallery location of 221 Canyon Road, Santa Fe.
Famous Transcendental artist Florence Pierce of Albuquerque passed away two years ago at the age of 89 years. She was an avid fan of pueblo natives and often visited with them at feast day ceremonies at the pueblos. Many pueblo Indians visited her and stayed with her when in Albuquerque. Pierce also was a collector of pueblo pottery and Hopi Katsina dolls. Most of her collection of 30 Hopi Katsina dolls dates to the 1930s and 1940s decades, with some dating to later periods. Some of the pottery is from the mid to late 20th century.
The estate collection of native arts will be on exhibit and for sale at Adobe Gallery at 221 Canyon Road in late December. An opening reception will be held on Friday, December 18th from 4 until 6 pm. The exhibit closes on January 2nd. Early sales will be authorized.
