This is an exceptionally fine Acoma Pueblo polychrome flat clay tile, dating from circa 1920-1930. It was formed in native clay with ground pottery shard temper, has a rag-wiped white slip, and is painted in vegetal and mineral black and red paints typical of Acoma pottery.

The tile is beautifully decorated with a bird figure that has a crown of feathers on its head. The circumference of the tile is decorated in cloverleaf form with cloud elements. The rim is painted brown.

The back of the tile is provided with a mechanism to allow it to be hung from string, however, someone has fashioned a metal stand so that it may be displayed on a shelf. The height of the tile when nestled in the stand ins 8-1/4 inches. The tile is in extraordinary condition considering its age.
