Joyce Lucero is obviously a potter with a wonderful sense of humor as well as a talent for making figurative pottery. In this nacimiento, Mary, Joseph and the angel all have wonderful expressions of happiness. Even the infant Jesus has a smile on his face.

The cow, sheep and donkey have "bulls eye target" eyes. The black horse has "crescent moon" eyes as if he is asleep and the camel has simply black dots for eyes. The human figures are hollow and in the shape of a bell.

The cradleboard is signed Joyce L. Acoma. There is a Joyce Leno in the literature, but I could not find a Joyce Lucero from Acoma. There was a Joyce Lucero listed from Jemez, but this set is definitely from Acoma. The previous owners stated that the potter was Joyce Lucero, so we are going with their information.
