Lucy Lewis was one of the most widely respected 20th century potters from her pueblo. This wonderful jar is testimony to her talents. It was made in the traditional pueblo manner. Lucy continued throughout her life to make pots in the traditional way; digging and preparing clay, grinding potshards for temper; coiling clay into a vessel shape, making her paints from plant and mineral elements, and firing the finished vessels in an open outdoor hand made kiln.

This jar is divided into six design panels, each of which has an upper and lower design that are similar, but in mirror image. The rim of the jar curves inward and is finished with black paint. The jar is in excellent condition. It probably dates to the 1960s-1970s period.
