Overlay jewelry is constructed by cutting a design into one layer of silver and overlaying that layer on another layer, most often one that is darkened to black. In this bracelet, a third layer has been used. The top two layers that comprise the design have been backed with a solid silver base. The interior between the double top layer and single bottom layer is hollow.

The only biographical information available on Henry Clark is that he was a benchsmith (Native American jeweler who works for another company or trader and not for themselves) for the Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild in 1962. I have been told by the daughter of the previous owner of this bracelet that he was her mother’s.

The bracelet is stamped with the initials HC and is in original condition with the exception of a few scratches here and there.
