Santa Fe residents in the early part of the 20th century seemed particularly charmed by pottery made by the local Pueblo Indians and often purchased decorative pieces for their homes. Items generally used by these residents included candle sticks, pitchers, salt and pepper shakers, and even flower pots. We would cringe today if someone planted in a pueblo pot, but it was the thing to do back then.

This flower pot shaped vessel has a single hole drilled in the base but there is no evidence that the jar was ever used as a planter. It is in original excellent condition.

The pot has an interesting history. It comes from the former estate of Amelia Hollenbeck, a former resident on her fine ranch home of 236 acres, near Stockton, California. At one time, she had a resident on 901 Camino Acacio in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in a house designed and built for her by John Gaw Meem. Her former house is now on the market in Santa Fe and this pot was in the home.
