The Cricket Katsina (Susöpa) appears as a runner at some of the Hopi villages and appears only at night in kiva ceremonies at other villages. His dress seems to be the same in any event. He wears a black bandolier across his chest, his hands are painted white, and he has a group of feathers in lieu of ears. His kilt is the traditional Hopi bachelor's blanket of black and white plaid design. The red belt on this carving is ribbon painted in the belt fashion.
This carving is most likely a mid-20th century one, a period before the use of acrylic paints. He has suffered a broken left shoulder, a broken right hand and a broken right foot, but has been put all back together again.
