Once Known Native American Carver

The Hopi have a katsina in honor of all the native tribes with which they are friendly. These are true Hopi Katsina, but they represent the other tribes. This Konin Mana Katsina is the female who accompanies the male Konin Katsina. Together, they are in honor of the Havasupai Indians.

This carving of the Konin Katsina is typical of those made for sale to tourists traveling Route 66 following World War II. It is accurate in its depiction of the Konin, but is smaller in size and less elaborate than the more spectacular ones made for sale to collectors.
