This extraordinary polychrome dough bowl with a pie crust rim has been attributed to the hands of Lucy Lewis based on stylistic grounds. The attribution was made by an independent certified appraiser.

It has a widely out-flaring round shape with a small, flat base and an incurving rim topped with an impressed pie crust fillet. The exterior is painted with a wide band of geometric design in a six-panel arrangement composed of triangular and leaf-form elements and areas of hachuring executed in orange and dark brown native mineral and organic paints.

The execution in form of the bowl and the finely designed and painted exterior of the bowl are strong evidence that the bowl was from the hands of an outstanding potter and it is quite likely that the potter was Lucy Lewis. The bowl dates to the mid 1900s.

Condition: The bowl is in excellent condition and does not show evidence of use.
