Billy Schenck is a contemporary American painter who incorporates techniques from Photo Realism with a Pop Art sensibility to both exalt and poke fun at images of the West. Created in a hard-edge style where colors are laid side-by-side rather than blended or shadowed, Schenck’s paintings reveal the many faces of the West, from the sublime aspects of nature and simple lifestyle to modern-day self-conscious excesses and glorified clichés.

“Searching High and Low for the Rio Grande” is certainly a take on the once grand river that is now nothing more than a trickle of water. This painting was executed in 1997 as a special commission for Adobe Gallery. It is in original condition and has been newly framed.

Provenance: This Billy Schenck painting Searching High and Low for the Rio Grande was shown in the exhibit Euro-American Fine Art Collection New Mexico Artists June 15, 2007 until September 3, 2007 presented at adobe gallery Santa fe.
