This two-volume set contains 100 beautiful plates depicting specimens of Pueblo pottery selected from the collection of over nineteen hundred pots in the Indian Arts Fund in Santa Fe. The set was published by C. Szwedzicki, Nice, France in 1933-1936. Titles and first pages of introduction printed in red and black, half-titles, parallel text in English and French. The 100 plates were each colored by hand. The text is stitched and the plates are unbound as issued. There are 50 plates within each of the two cloth boxes with morocco lettering-pieces.
Volume I gives a general introduction to the ceramic art of the Pueblo Indians of the Southwest, then concentrates on an overview of the pottery produced in the pueblos of Taos and Picuris, San Juan (Ohkay Owingeh), Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Tesuque, Cochiti, Santo Domingo, and Santa Ana. This is followed by descriptions of the specific examples of the pottery shown in the plates.
In volume II, the sequence in geographical distribution of Pueblo villages is followed west, in consideration of the products of four remaining pottery making pueblos—Tsia (Zia), Acoma, Zuni, and Hopi. Volume I was issued in an edition of 750 copies. This is copy #359. Volume II was issued in an edition of 750 copies. This is copy #106. The 100 plates are in excellent original condition. The cloth boxes show some wear, but are intact.
Volume I is more readily available in the market place, but Volume II is much rarer. This set is sold only as a set.
