Small Black-on-black Bowl by Clara Martinez [SOLD]

Marie and Julian had four sons-Adam (1903-2000), John (1915-1966), Popovi Da (1922-1971) and Phillip (1925-1966).  Clara Silva Martinez was the wife of John, also known as Juan Diego.  Maria stated that John was the studious one of the boys.  He liked to read and study and go to school.  He went to Stanford in 1946 following service in the Army in World War II.  He was a professional engineer, but also found time to paint a few paintings.  Ones we have had were simply signed John.

This is the very first pottery item we have had by Clara so I cannot state whether it is typical of her work or not, but it is a fine example and in very good condition.  It is signed Clara Martinez.
